A Letter From Our Pastor

Dear Church Family,

I have bad news and some great news.  I'll start with the bad news.  Different Christian surveys state that there is a trend toward what is called Casual Christianity.  The Barna Group, a well known Christian polling firm, estimates that Casual Christians make up 66% of the adult population of the United States.  The statistics for the rest of the adult population are:  Skeptics (Agnostics and Atheists) are 11%;  Mormons are 2%;  Muslims are 0.5%;  Pantheists are 2%;  Jews are 2%;  and last, but certainly not least are what is called Captive Christians and they are 16%.  Committed Christians are described as Captive Christians and they live a "sold out" life to God and believe the Bible is without error.  One might look at the Casual Christians' 66% statistic and think that the high percentage is a good thing;  that is not the case.  This means that 66% are spiritually misguided and do not believe in moral absolutes.  In Casual Christianity their faith is considered to be just part of who they are and not the guiding force that drives them in their lives, as is the case with Captive Christianity.  Casual Christians' belief that they are doing the right things is what makes these statistics so disturbing.  Okay, that was the bad news.

The good news is that God is in control!  There are those 16% of our adult population who are Captive Christians and totally "sold out" to Christ and they are praying , working and sharing the Gospel.  That 16% is a powerful force!

Let me close by saying that I believe we are running out of time.  People are dying every day without Christ!  Let us pray and work so that God finds us in a higher percentage than the current 16% who are "sold out" to Him.  Before we die or He comes back, whichever may come first, let us share the good news of Christ today.

Love You All,

Pastor Bo
